[31 May 2004]
Mika Häkkinen and Mika Salo had a second racing day at Ahvenisto circuit yesterday. Or actually it was the first for Salo as there was only qualifying on Saturday for the Super 2000 class in which Salo comfortably drove to the pole.
At the first Super 2000 start Salo led from pole, but in the middle distance had to give way for multible champion Olli Haapalainen due to a small error. The pair comfortably outpace the opposition and drove home together with Haapalainen winning. In the secon heat Salo and Haapalainen started further down the order. It was now raining quite heavily and they both suffered from poor visibility because of moisture in the windshealds. After two laps Salo drove to the pits and retired. Haapalainen followed him two laps later but continued almost immediately after the pit crew cleaned his windows from inside. He then went on to finnish impressive second. The race was won by Kari Grönthal by over half a minute.
The Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia had it's second race on Sunday. Double F1 world champ Mika Häkkinen won the Saturday's heat and started now from the pole. He led the early laps but was then overtaken by hard pressing Markus Palattala who went on to win the race. Häkkinen was second.
