Historic racing offers everything one might want from an enjoyable motor racing event.
Great cars with racing history, the roar of engines and the smell of gasoline, exhaust
fumes and burnt rubber. Not to mention proper racing and overtaking. All this was a plenty last weekend
at Ahvenisto, the finest racing circuit in Scandinavia. A beautiful twisting three kilometre
roadcourse built in the late sixties between the hills on the conditions of the nature.
BMW:s, Ford Escorts and Cortinas, Porsches, Volvos, Hillmans and Minis etc. fighting for honors
in the touring car classes. All of the entries having proven racing history of their day.
Van Diemen 2-litre sports prototypes and 1300cc Touring Saloons dicing for positions together
and Historic Formula Fords and Formula V:s in their own monoposto class completing the lineup along
with exhibition laps by historic cars and motorcycles. All this guaranteeing almost non stop action
for the two day event.
Racing Images's Matti Ouvinen and Ville Tikkaoja were on hand to take a few photos and to soak up
the atmosphere of racings good old days before traction control, motorhomes and politics. Motor
racing like it should be. For more information check www.historicrace.fi
Enjoy the photos.
